Irun to San Sebastian

Irun turned out to be wet and rainy. A trend that would continue all day. On the way to the trailhead we spotted a beaver pond and a huge beaver ad well as several marsh herons and a stork.

The trail turned out to be incredibly steep and led up to a church at the mid-way point. Pausing to catch our breath we took a bunch of pics of the Atlantic ocean to our right - the camino del norte essentially follows the spine of the mountains ( Pyrenees near irun and then the cantabrian mtns) along the coast for almost 300 km. Beautiful.

  1. Well, no albergue but you did get to see the beaver, heron and stork, yah! My favorite place in Spain was Potes, a small village in the countryside, a bus ride from the coast of San Sebastian, with limestone mountains, a stone bridge and the smell of sweet bread in the air. I hitch-hiked to Fuente De, took the cable car up to hike the Cantabrian mtns then hitched a ride back to town since I missed the last bus. I was able to convince the cook at my hostel to prepare juevos for breakfast...got sooooo tired of jamon y queso cada dia.

Thanks for bringing back such wonderful memories and looking forward to more of yours.

    Have a churro for me!
Tenga un buen fin de semana. Ciao, Theresa
